A steady hand and good focus is needed to pipe accurately and year 9 were quick to develop this skill.

Great preparation for their practical exam in year 11.

Year group: 7

Year 8 have been finishing off their pewter keyrings where they used the casting method. Students had to design a mould using CAD, this was then lasercut, then they had to abrade the pewter surface and polish it to a mirror-like shine.

Next, they will be designing the packaging to accompany the keyring.

Teacher:MS Rua

Project: Keyring

Year group: 8

This Year 8 group have completed their wooden toys.

They learnt about how to carefully cut out a cardboard net. They then designed a window and stencil which they did on 2D design. The windows and stencils are laser cut.

They then assembled a simple circuit and soldered wires to the switch.

Year 9 have been practicing high level NEA skills this week and made some fantastic filled pasta shapes by hand.

In the lesson we discussed the idea of growth mindset and seeing any early errors in developing a new skill (making pasta like this is very hard!) as an opportunity to learn, possibly considering a different approach in future if the pasta did not work out as planned.

Teacher: Mr Norris

Project: Fresh pasta making and filling

Year 7 have been exceptionally busy this term designing and decorating a cotton bag, based on Sustainability. They have been learning how to design and make a stencil using the 2D Design computer programme, demonstrating different sewing stitches, sewing buttons on pockets, learning the appliqué technique and stippling stencils. Amazing results, well done!

Teacher: Ms Watson

Project: Textiles

Year group:7

Year 7 have been designing and making a mini light using CAD (Computer Aided Design) this term. Much to their delight they finally had the opportunity to complete them…and they work!

Teacher: Miss Watson

Project: Mini Light

Year group:7

This Year 7 group have completed their mood lights.

They chose an animal and they also chose whether to make a pull-along or push-along toy.

They used their cut out template to help them do an oblique drawing.

Teacher: Ms Davidson

Project: Wooden Toy

Year 9

Acrylic mobile phone holder, based on Alessi design.

A varied range of creative designs developed by Ms Rua’s Year 9 Product Design class.

This shows the development from isometric sketches, modelling in card and final acrylic prototype.

The Year 9 Shipping Container project has produced some incredible outcomes this year! These 1:20 scale models show shipping containers that have been repurposed for another function. We have a 90s style diner, a zero plastic refill supermarket, a bakery, arcades, cinemas and record stores.

Teacher: Miss Murray

Project: Graphics - Shipping Container

KS4 Child Development

Child development taster days for year 8 as they choose their options took place this week. Students simulated contractions of the uterus as they gave birth to ping pong balls!

Teacher: Mrs Jesson

Year 9 made some bright and colourful ‘Menstruation bracelets’ - a fantastic way of remembering the stages of the menstrual cycle.
