PE & Dance

Curriculum Intent

We seek to develop knowledge, understanding, confidence and skills in a range of activities, such as games, dance, gymnastics and athletics. Students will  work as individuals, in groups and in teams. They will have the chance to learn about the principles and practices that lead to good performance. Discovering what they like to do, what their aptitudes are at school, and to empower our students to get involved in physical activity, instil good habits which helps them make informed choices about lifelong physical activity and the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle.

How is PE & dance delivered at Warden Park?

Students study Core PE throughout both Key stages 3 & 4. Students in Year 7 have 6 lessons per fortnight, Year 8 have 5 and Year 9, 10, 11 have 2 hours. In Year 10 and 11 students have the option to choose their own pathway of activities, this based around performance, participation or dance options. Students then follow a series of activities based on the pathway they choose. Students who choose a dance pathway as part of their core curriculum can undertake a dance leadership award.

Students can choose to study GCSE PE or GCSE Dance from Year 9. All students are encouraged to get involved in team sports and/or attend the many after school clubs that the PE and Dance Department offer. The dance clubs are always  a great way to be involved in the concerts and productions the school puts on throughout the year.

To find out more about these programmes of study please visit the subject pages of our dedicated Key Stage 4 website.
