Learning about Life

Curriculum Intent

Learning about life is dedicated to delivering a current, comprehensive and relevant curriculum for all our students, enabling them to become the best versions of themselves. We emphasise personal development of skills and strategies to self regulate and manage emotions. We teach character attributes such as resilience, confidence and independence alongside the facts. We provide students with the means to form and develop positive relationships. We teach knowledge and understanding of the wider diverse world, whilst making links between classroom content, life outside the classroom and our community.

How is Learning about Life delivered at Warden Park?

All students have Learning about Life lessons throughout both Key stage 3 & 4 and is where we deliver the majority of our relationships and sex education. In Years 7 & 8 students have one lesson per  fortnight and in Key Stage 4 this is increased to two lessons per fortnight.

In Years 9 & 10 Learning about Life is delivered on a carousel basis, so that staff are able to specialise in the delivery of this important aspect of the curriculum. This carousel also includes an enrichment option, which provides students with the opportunity to learn about something that is not part of their everyday curriculum. We aim to provide a diverse range of options and the options available are dependent upon the nature of the teachers specialisms. In the past our topics have ranged from The Holocaust to South American culture.  This element of the curriculum is critical in empowering students to find purpose and meaning in their lives.

To find out more about these programmes of study please visit the subject pages of our dedicated Key Stage 4 website.
