Ingenium & HPQ

Curriculum Intent

INgenium is the Latin word used for 'character'. Character education sits at the heart of our curriculum and this option aims to provide students with a strong sense of personal empowerment by enabling them to take control of their own learning. We believe this will provide students with a highly valuable opportunity to prepare them for the style of learning and level of independence required at college or sixth form and even more so for university.

The INgenium course offers students with a high level of academic ability the opportunity to study a GCSE of their choice that sits outside the usual curriculum offering. Students will be involved in planning the curriculum and assessment process as well as identifying the most appropriate resources to support them in their learning. Specialist staff will take on a role similar to that of a university tutor to support students in the development of their knowledge and understanding. The course will provide students with two national qualifications.   The first of these is the Higher Project Qualification (HPQ) that aims to develop students’ research skills. The second will be a GCSE in their chosen subject. The HPQ is also accessible to all students through the Twilight curriculum.

How is INgenium delivered at Warden Park?

This subject is available to students as a GCSE option. Students seeking to undertake this option must undergo a rigorous application process in order to be permitted to this programme of study. Students who are successful in securing a place in this option at GCSE have 5 lessons per fortnight to study the HPQ and a further GCSE in a subject outside of our regular curriculum. At present we have students working towards: GCSE Sociology, GCSE Psychology, GCSE Ancient History and GCSE Photography.

To find out more about these programmes of study please visit the subject pages of our dedicated Key Stage 4 website.
